The information in the table below provides an analysis of
trades and occupations from the 1841, 51, 61, 71, 81, 91 &
1901 census. It indicates that the village community was
fairly self sufficient in spite of being so close to the county
town of Oakham.
When looking for trends it is important to note the changes
in the use of occupation names, Ag Lab, Farmer, Farmers
Assistant, Farm Servant, Farm Manager etc. It is possible to
detect the wealthy moving in to the village with their
retainers as the century progressed.
