Langham in Rutland
The Village Hall
The big fundraising event of the year in Langham will be the Street Market on Bank Holiday Monday 29 August along Church Street and in the Village Hall, in aid of Village Hall refurbishment. The last four street markets were record-breaking successes and we hope this year's event will be better still. There will be stalls selling everything imaginable from crafts to clocks, flowerpots to furniture, tools to teapots and lots of bric-a-brac and white elephants as well. Sandwiches, cakes, tea and coffee will be sold by the WI in the Village Hall and there will be a barbecue with soft drinks outside.  As well as the private market stalls there will be all the usual Village Hall stalls: white elephant; books; tombola; raffle and games - something for everybody in the family in fact. The street market will be held from 11am onwards on Church Street stretching from the Noel Arms crossroads towards the junction with Well Street, a one way system will operate to help stall holders in setting up before the road closure. Field parking and parking for the disabled will be signposted.  Support for your village hall will be most welcome whether by coming to the street market to buy and enjoy, helping with the stalls or donating things for sale. Helpers are needed for the White Elephant stall, for marshalling traffic, manning car parks and for setting up and clearing away afterwards. Please telephone Bill on 770539 or Val on 756202. The village hall will be open on Sunday 28 August between 10.30 am and 3.00 pm for delivery of good quality white elephants and books. Cakes and produce for the WI sales may also be left then or brought along early on Monday morning. To give prizes for the tombola contact Cathy on 770008 and for the raffle contact Bill on 770539. If you are going to be away that weekend and would like to make a cash donation then telephone Graham on 722059. About a 100 bookings are expected for street market pitches which can be booked with Val on 756202 at £10, only in advance. All proceeds from Village Hall stalls, refreshments, tombola, raffle and street market pitch fees will be used for village hall refurbishments and maintenance to benefit the whole village (charity number 522341).
